ACT 12, the 12th annual Wisconsin AIDS Ride, begins this Thursday (July 31), with the Opening Ceremony at 7 a.m. in Olbrich Park (Madison) followed by the riders’ departure at approximately 7:30 a.m. WKOW’s Dani Maxwell is the emcee.
Riders in the past 11 ACT rides have logged over 3,500 miles and raised over $3 million dollars for AIDS Network, the HIV/AIDS service provider for southern Wisconsin. Funds raised through the Wisconsin AIDS Ride help sustain and enhance HIV prevention and care services in Wisconsin. This year’s theme is Riding to Zero: Zero New Diagnoses. Zero Deaths. Zero Discrimination.
“HIV/AIDS remains a serious issue in Wisconsin,” said AIDS Network Executive Director Dan Guinn. “People continue to test positive for HIV and we see more patients and clients each year. We have more confidence and knowledge of how to treat and prevent the disease, but a cure for HIV/AIDS continues to elude us.”
The Wisconsin AIDS Ride is a unique multi-day fundraising event that attracts bikers, crew members, and volunteers from around the state and across the country, all committed to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. Added last year was a 1-day ride option—the 100-mile Century Day—on Saturday (August 2).
The 4-day, 300-mile ACT 12 ride concludes on Sunday (August 3) in downtown Madison (Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd at the Capitol Square), where the Closing Ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. Both events are free of charge and open to the public.
