Broom Street Theater seeks script submissions for 2016-17 season

by | Apr 20, 2015 | 0 comments

Broom Street Theater (BST) in Madison, Wisconsin is currently seeking script submissions for its 2016/2017 season. Founded in 1969, Broom Street is among the nation’s oldest continuously operating experimental theater companies, primarily producing original works by local playwrights. For further information about the company, please see BST’s website: www.bstonline.org

BST’s 2016 season includes ten (10) shows. BST encourages experimental work that stretches the imagination beyond theatrical norms in terms of story, form, and relationship with audience, to name a few. Preference goes to premieres of work that have not had full productions elsewhere and to original, experimental renderings of extant works. Submitters are not limited to local playwrights, but the company gives preference to local, state, and Midwest authors.

Submit a full script to be considered for the 2016 season. If you are local to Madison Wisconsin you may submit a concept for 2017 to be work shopped through 16 devised theater rehearsals after which time a full draft will be submitted for consideration for the 2017 Season. To assure consideration, proposals must be in writing. Deadline for submissions is May 15th 2015 Follow these instructions:

 To facilitate blind reviewing, include a cover sheet with your contact information. A cover letter is not required but you may add one if you like.

 Remove your name from all other pages.

 Indicate whether the author plans to direct his/her own work. If not, please name a preferred director, keeping in mind that the BST Artistic Director will make the final determination.

 Submit as a Word file or PDF by May 15th 2015 to [email protected].

PLEASE NOTE: If your piece is accepted, you will be required to sign a contract with specific stipulations. Each production receives a small stipend to cover costs of producing the show.
