SUMMARY:Walking With Jesus: Christians Interrupting Anti-Trans Violence
DESCRIPTION:This event: Has LGBTQ content\, Is LGBTQ hosted\, May be of interest to the LGBTQ community || On Good Friday\, Christians remember a God who suffered death out of immense love for humanity. This Good Friday morning\, queer- and trans-affirming Christians will gather in a solemn observance of the Stations of the Cross\, an ancient Christian liturgy\, to affirm Trans existence and renounce violent assault on Trans bodies and souls. Participants will gather at the Way of the Cross Garden and follow a 1.3-mile procession with stops at significant locations in downtown Madison\, including the Federal Courthouse\, the State Capitol\, and the County Public Safety Building. At each station there will be a scripture reading\, meditation\, and reflection. The procession will last approximately 90 minutes and will return to the Way of the Cross Garden at its conclusion. \nThis event is organized by Stone Catchers Madison\, a queer- and trans-led group of progressive Christians dedicated to interrupting spiritual and political violence against marginalized peoples. All are welcome. || Free

SUMMARY:Make A Promise Gala
DESCRIPTION:From the beginning of the HIV epidemic\, until we end it – together.\n2026 marks 40 years of Vivent Health\, and the legacy of AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW)\, standing at the front lines of the HIV epidemic—delivering care\, dignity\, and hope for people living with and impacted by HIV in Wisconsin. That’s 40 years of transforming and saving lives. And it’s all because of your generosity\, your compassion\, and your commitment to ending the HIV epidemic. \nAs we honor and celebrate the legacy of ARCW\, join us to ignite action\, build access\, and ensure health for all. \n  \nYour generosity expands access to care\nNet proceeds from Make A Promise directly support the health and well-being of patients in Milwaukee. Through contributions to the Vivent Health Patient Medication Fund and the Dr. Brian P. Buggy Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation\, your generosity helps address some of the most pressing challenges affecting our patients’ health — including food insecurity\, emergency financial assistance\, and medication co-pays. These vital supports help ensure patients receive the care they need\, even when those needs fall beyond the reach of traditional funding sources. \nThe Make A Promise tradition\nIn 1986\, a group of gay men hosted a dinner party in a Milwaukee-area home to raise money for the fight against HIV/AIDS. Their success that night inspired a promise to return the next year with more people\, raise more money\, and repeat this dinner until a cure for AIDS is found. \nThis year\, in 2026\, we come together to celebrate and honor the anniversary of their commitment\, the legacy of Vivent Health and the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW)\, and to reinvigorate our promise to end the HIV epidemic. \n  \nFor event inquiries please reach out to our events team at events@viventhealth.org

Attendees can bring a blank t-shirt(s) or sweatshirt (s) for printing\, or create posters and signs. \n“Many of us are asking\, ‘What more can I do to fight racism\, facism\, xenophobia\, injustice and other inhumane actions and forms of oppression?’” said Annik Dupaty\, event organizer. “Collective acts of resistance\, demonstrating love for our neighbors\, supporting and getting involved with local organizations\, staying informed\, investing in the wellness of others while practicing self-care are important actions we can all take. That’s why we’ve named this event a warm up – our aim is for this to be one part of many actions and activities around the county that build up to bigger societal changes.” \nThe event seeks to foster connections and civic engagement among people who are seeking ways to make a difference locally. An “Action Marketplace” will feature local organizations sharing opportunities to get involved in issues including voter rights\, Black liberation\, immigrant advocacy\, wellness and mental health awareness\, housing affordability and more. Plus\, people can connect with neighbors over conversation\, coffee\, and treats. \nThis community action event will be a welcoming and accessible space to all\, especially those feeling concerned or frustrated by current events and this administration and unsure of what to do. “Uncertainty in the world is constant\, but what we can control is how we can get together in our local community to push things forward. This is how we’re going to see change\,” said Rev. David Hart\, III\, pastor at Sherman Avenue United Methodist Church. \nThe event reflects Sherman Church’s commitment to advancing diversity\, equity\, inclusion and belonging\, while demonstrating love\, care and support to members of the community. “You don’t have to be a ‘church person’ to attend. This is an event where anyone can show up\, enjoy some hospitality\, connect with other people and organizations and take action\,” said Dupaty. \nThe event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. \nFor more information\, visit www.shermanavenueumc.org. \nAbout Sherman United Methodist Church\nSherman United Methodist Church (UMC) was founded in 1953 and is part of the First United Methodist Church. SUMMARY:BE SEEN: Celebrating the 1966 Sip-In
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we come together for an “hour of power” and a toast to our elders on Tuesday\, April 21\, 2026 — as we celebrate the battle for our rights to BE SEEN\, be served\, and assemble as an LGBTQ community.\n\nFluid and the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project are joining an Instagram Live national celebration connecting hundreds of queer spaces across America. Photographs and video clips will be collected for the Project.\n\nAll guests are encouraged to use hashtag #SipIn60 in social posts.\n\nDid you know? Until 1982\, it was perfectly legal for any bar to refuse service to known or suspected homosexuals in Wisconsin.\nBartenders who served gay men or lesbians could lose their licenses; bars who allowed them to congregate were often declared “disorderly houses” and closed down. Gay bars were forced to operate under the radar\, paying the police for protections\, and customers were treated as second-class citizens.\nToday\, this may seem unthinkable. To our elders\, it was just everyday life.\n\nOn April 21\, 1966\, the Mattachine Society organized a protest to challenge discrimination and assert our First Amendment rights to assemble. After announcing they were gay and requesting service\, they were immediately refused — and the moment was photographed and received widespread media attention.\n\nThe Sip-In had a domino effect that led to the Stonewall Uprising of 1969. This national event offers a chance for the community to come together and celebrate LGBTQ history\, at a time when we are being censored\, excluded\, and erased.\n\nThe Sip-In Celebration is sponsored by the LGBTQ Heritage Alliance\, of which the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project was a founding member in 2024.\n\n Come celebrate LGBTQ history and activism as we connect to the NYC anchor event at Julius’ bar via Zoom and Instagram Live.\n\n Photos of Mattachine Society members and Sip-In participants Dick Leitsch\, John Timmons\, Craig Rodwell\, and Randy Wicker. Gift of The Estate of Fred W. McDarrah. #SipIn60
