The race\, officially named Rudy’s Rainbow Mile\, will honor the late Rudy Rosbeck-Ledesma\, a Run Madtown participant and supporter of the Wisconsin running community. \nRudy’s Rainbow Mile also pays tribute to Rudy’s connection to the event through his spouse\, T.J. Rosbeck-Ledesma AKA Harmony Breeze\, who serves as the event finish line announcer for Run Madtown. \nRudy’s Rainbow Mile will take place Saturday\, May 23 at 6 p.m.\, beginning and ending on State Street\, the same start and finish line used for all Run Madtown events. \nKnown for his vibrant personality\, Rudy loved performing as a singer and dancer\, advocating for equality\, traveling to warm destinations and spending time with his spouse. Professionally\, he worked as an ophthalmology technician at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee. \nThe new race will also support Courage+\, a Milwaukee nonprofit supported by Rudy and T.J. that provides LGBTQ+ youth with a sense of community centered on care\, safety and acceptance while advocating for meaningful systemic change. \nParticipants in Rudy’s Rainbow Mile will receive a race bib\, professional timing provided by Laurel Race Timing\, a finisher’s medal and a pair of brightly colored sunglasses. The glasses are a fitting tribute to Rudy\, who was known for wearing rainbow glasses during nearly every activity. \nThe one-mile format is designed to be welcoming and accessible for runners and walkers of all abilities. During this free\, two-day festival celebration\, MSO musicians and diverse community groups will perform on a rotating schedule throughout various spaces in Overture Center for the Arts. This will also be performances on the mainstage in Overture Hall which include a Family Concert and an Overture Concert Organ Concert on Saturday as well as a Madison Symphony Orchestra Concert on Sunday. We will also have food vendors that will be in Overture Lobby each day from 9:30-4:30 pm. \nAll performances will be presented free-of-charge to the public — a gift to the city of Madison and surrounding areas for their support of the MSO now and into the future. || Free!
