POSITION SUMMARY
Education Engagement Specialists at PBS Wisconsin work to support Wisconsin educators with professional development connected to PBS Wisconsin and national public media educational resources. There are two education engagement specialist positions available. One position focuses on sharing PBS Wisconsin Education resources with educators in 3rd-12th grade classrooms across the state and activating national public media content that meets local needs (Position A). The other focuses on activating skills in 3rd-12th grade media literacy instruction and youth storytelling/media making (Position B). Both Education Engagement Specialists assist with partnership development, program administration and logistics, outreach and communications, and budget tracking. The Education Engagement Specialists report to the Manager of Education Engagement.

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Education, Library Sciences, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field preferred.

MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE

  1. At least 4 years combined experience as an educator in an elementary, middle, or high school setting and/or educational experience in out-of-school settings that work with 3rd-12th grade students and implement media into education such as libraries, museums, or youth programs
  2. Experience planning and delivering professional development for educators
  3. Experience facilitating online/virtual events for adults, including speaking publicly to large groups using digital/technological tools
  4. Familiarity with the Wisconsin State Standards or equivalent national standards, especially in one or more of any of the following areas: American Indian Studies, English Language Arts, Information and Technology Literacy, Social Studies, or Science
  5. Demonstrated evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills

NOT REQUIRED BUT DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Familiarity with or experience with PBS Wisconsin Education or PBS nationally produced online classroom media and educational content
  2. Experience implementing media-based learning in 3rd-12th grade learning environments
  3. Experience facilitating media-making with 6th-12th grade students
  4. Commitment to educational equity
  5. Fluency in a language other than English

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  1. Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials (35%)
    • Lead the development and evaluation of professional learning opportunities for 3rd-12th grade educators around the state with support and consultation from other engagement specialists, including cohort programs, conference presentations, webinars, district PD, invited talks, and other education engagement programs and events.
    • Collaborate with the PBS Wisconsin Education Production Team and others to inform and assist with the development of educator support materials, and help facilitate teacher input into the production of Wisconsin-focused educational media resources for students and educators in grades 3-12.
    • Stay abreast of relevant classroom media, curricula, and educator engagement resources from PBS and apply them to engagement opportunities for 3rd-12th grade educators in Wisconsin.
  2. Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members (20%)
    • Represent PBS Wisconsin Education at meetings, events, and conferences serving 3rd-12th grade educators.
  3. Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program (15%)
    • Manage all logistics and scheduling for virtual and in-person programming, including confirming dates and details, securing outside speakers or panelists as appropriate, managing registrations, adhering to department contact management protocols, procuring necessary program supplies and physical spaces, managing virtual event platform logistics, and other tactical program support.
  4. Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program (15%)
    • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with organizations that serve 3rd – 12th-grade educators such as the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs), colleges and universities that offer educator preparation programs, professional associations, and school districts across the state.
    • Foster relationships with 3rd – 12th-grade educators who use resources from PBS Wisconsin in their classrooms.
  5. Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers (5%)
    • In alignment with department priorities and budgets, occasionally hire, train, coach, and supervise the work of part-time student employees or project assistants. Recruit and collaborate with educators on planning and delivery of conference presentations, webinars, and other engagement events.
  6. Collaborates on funding proposal preparation, execution, and reporting requirements. May assist with the monitoring of budget spending. (5%)
    • Works closely with the Director of Education, the Manager of Education Engagement, and development colleagues to respond to, develop, and deliver on grant-funded work.
    • Proactively plan, communicate, and accurately track program expenditures with the Manager of Education Engagement and other PBS Wisconsin Education colleagues to align with departmental budget planning and reporting needs.
  7. Assists with the communication of PBS Wisconsin Education’s 3rd-12th grade events and resources. (5%)
    • In collaboration with Education communications staff, inform strategic communications plans for engagement events, activities, and materials through multiple outlets (i.e. e-newsletters, list-servs, social media, partner activation, etc.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Expected salary range for this position is $52,000 – $62,000 for highly experienced candidates who exceed the qualifications. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

Expected start date is January 2022, however, we would be willing to have candidates start sooner if available.

There are two education engagement specialist positions available. One position focuses on sharing PBS Wisconsin Education resources with educators in 3rd-12th grade classrooms across the state and activating national public media content that meets local needs (Position A). The other position focuses on activating skills in 3rd-12th grade media literacy instruction and youth storytelling/media making (Position B).

This position will require the ability to work some evenings, weekends and to travel around Wisconsin to represent PBS Wisconsin at educator conferences and to create, steward, and collaborate with partners, educators, and school districts as projects warrant. Some national travel for partner meetings and professional development may also be an opportunity. Education staff are currently working 100% remotely with the expectation of moving to a hybrid work schedule with at least 1 day per week on-site in the office at Vilas Hall in Madison sometime in the new year.
