The Dane County Department of Administration, Information Management Division in Madison, Wisconsin is recruiting for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Information Management Applications Manager – Deployment position. The Eligibility List created will be used to fill future vacancies over the next six (6) months.

Under the general guidance of the Chief Information Officer, this classification provides oversight of the applications support and development teams. Manages applications that are procured from third party vendors or are created in house. Designs, plans for and implements new technology for a large county government.


Supervises and directs the activities of the applications support and/or development team members. Designs processes and business rules for department information technology needs. Manages programs that have been procured by third party vendors, which can be related to the overall county financial application system, payroll system, document management systems, land mapping systems or other systems that have been procured by county departments. Provides leadership and guidance to IT professionals. Recruits IT professionals to the applications teams. Trains team members on the latest technologies, applications, and procedures. Creates and implements processes and procedures designed to enhance workflow efficiency. Manages IT projects.


Education, Experience & Special Requirements


Education, Training and Experience:

Minimum Requirements: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Programming or a related field AND a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a management, supervisory, or lead worker capacity.

Preferred Requirements: An ideal candidate will have experience managing IT professionals working in a fast paced midsized IT environment, IT project planning, and experience working with any of the following hardware and/or software products: VMware, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office, PowerShell Scripting, Visual Studio, Power BI Suite, .NET programming language, Laserfiche, ArcGIS, Document Management Software, Record Management Systems, Payroll Systems and Financial application systems.

Special Requirements:

Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent.  Due to the nature of this position overtime, after hours work and the ability to respond to after-hours service calls are a critical requirement to support 24/7 operations of various departments such as the Airport, Public Safety 911, Sheriff’s Office, and the Badger Prairie Health Care Center.

Physical and Environmental Working Environment:

Normal office environment. Manual dexterity using fine and gross motor skills. Good visual acuity and hearing with or without corrective devices. Ability to lift 10 – 25 pounds with or without assistance.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


A demonstrated knowledge of the principles, theories, best practices and techniques for managing, planning and implementing software projects and systems. Successful experience in management techniques in project management in particular with the ability to lead teams. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to stay current on technology and adapt quickly in a changing professional environment. Ability to think critically and resolve complex problems that can change scope multiple times throughout the lifecycle of a project. Ability to manage time of oneself and others. Requires leadership skills to set priorities of staff, delegating tasks and helping motivate members on one’s team. Financial skills to budget resources, understand business metrics and adjust priorities as needed. Presentation skills are required to present compelling arguments to support business goals.
