What: Project Home’s Serving Those Who Served Program is a new initiative to make health and safety related home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy upgrades to the homes of low-to-moderate income veterans and their families. Our STWS program would identify income-eligible home owners, who served in the military, and utilize Project Home staff to evaluate, plan and complete the number of projects that STWS program funding will support. These projects are an important reinvestment in our community and our service men and women.
Who: Recipients would be honorably discharged military veterans that are at or below 80% of their County Median Income. Projects would be exclusively for veterans and their families who live in Dane and Green counties and own their homes.
Why: Project Home has long served military veterans through our existing programs (over 40 years of “home” based work). With the growing number of veterans aging in place or at risk of becoming homeless, there is a greater need to establish a program to focus on those who have served our country. Project Home’s SWTS program will make veterans homes’ more accessible, comfortable and affordable. They have served us…..it is now time for us to serve them.
When: Projects would begin in July 2016 and would be performed throughout the next 12 months. Our goal is to make STWS an annual program following a July to June schedule.
What We Have: The skills, knowledge, experience, equipment, training and ability to redirect our resources – (our staff has done thousands of these types of projects during the past 45 years). We would be honored to help more of our service men and women.
What We Need: Financial support — (this is not an investment in a new, start-up organization….. this is an investment in an established, trusted non-profit that is looking to create a focused program to serve more veterans).
The Impact We Can Make: For every $10,000 we raise, we can help another military veteran and his or her family. Some projects will be a ramp and internal accessibility modifications, others will encompass health and safety repairs and some will consist of cost-effective energy saving upgrades that will make a family’s home more comfortable and save them money on their energy bills.
Our goal is to help 50 veterans and their families during the first 12 months of the program — Will you help us serve those who served?
