Sailing, Windsurfing, Paddling & Horseback Riding: Outdoor UW & Hoofer Summer Camps, Classes & Rentals

For kids ages 8 to 18 who want to be active and outside this summer Hoofers, under the auspices of Outdoor UW, offers great classes all summer long, including sailing, windsurfing, paddling and horseback riding.

Hoofers Youth Sailing Camps

Ages:  10-18 years old

What:  sailing, windsurfing, and paddling

When:  Camps begin in mid-June and run throughout the summer.   Classes begin June 16 and run two weeks, four days a week.   Each class is 3 hours; there are morning or afternoon options.

There is also a sailing ‘day camp’ offered that runs from 10 am to 4 pm four days a week for two weeks.

Courses offered:

  • Sailing:  beginner, sailing 2, advanced, & keelboat
  • Windsurfing
  • Paddling

Adult Day Sailing with Hoofers!

Imagine relaxing on the bow of a sail boat gliding across the clear, blue waters of Lake Mendota. The Hoofer Sailing Club offers non-members a variety of sailing packages to accommodate novices and seasoned sailor alike—including day sails for experienced sailors, learn to sail/windsurf short-courses, guided group sails, and customized regattas (sailboat races) for 9-90 participants.  Be sure to plan ahead as these sailing opportunities book up fast!  Contact [email protected] for more information.

Outdoor UW is the Wisconsin Union’s new full-service outdoor recreation unit that is home to the Wisconsin Hoofer clubs (Sailing, Outing, Mountaineering, Riding, SCUBA and Skiing & Snowboarding – open to all UW students and Union members), outdoor rentals (canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and tents), WIsconsin Basecamp (outdoor orientation program for new UW students), and outdoor education class series emphasizing outdoor skills and knowledge. This new entity coincided with the opening of the west wing of Memorial Union resulting from the Memorial Union Reinvestment renovation project.
