Wisconsin Film Festival Announces Wisconsin’s Own Submissions Open for the 2016 Festival

MADISON, WI –

General submissions for the Wisconsin’s Own category of the 2016 Wisconsin Film Festival are open. Wisconsin’s Own entries are due by Tuesday, December 1, 2015 and Wisconsin’s Own Student entries from student filmmakers are due by Thursday, December 31, 2015.

The Wisconsin’s Own and Wisconsin’s Own Student sections of the festival are for films or filmmakers with Wisconsin ties. Films must either contain significant portions shot in Wisconsin or a primary filmmaker or cast member who is a resident, native, current or former student in Wisconsin. The Festival welcomes narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films or videos of any length.

Wisconsin’s Own is the only portion of the festival that is selected via open submission process. A jury of industry professionals views the films chosen for the festival and bestows Golden Badger awards to noteworthy entries.

The 2015 Wisconsin Film Festival was proud to screen some exceptional films in the Wisconsin’s Own Category including festival favorites Uncle John and The Russian Woodpecker.

At an event honoring Wisconsin’s Own filmmaking held during the 2015 festival at the Livingston Inn, plaques were presented to this year’s Golden Badger winners. Emcee Pete Schwaba, host of Wisconsin Public Television’s Director’s Cut, presented awards to the filmmakers responsible for this year’s winning films: Little America, directed by Kurt Raether, The Searcher, directed by Joe Schaffer, and Clarence directed by Kristin Catalano.

The 18th Annual Wisconsin Film Festival opens on Thursday, April 14 and plays through Thursday, April 21, 2016.
