The Intersection of LGBTQIA+ and Faith

January 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

This event: Has LGBTQ content || The Intersection of LGBTQIA+ and Faith
Waukesha, Wis., (January 3, 2024)—On Thursday, January 18, PFLAG Waukesha will host an
educational meeting at the Waukesha Public Library entitled The Intersection of LGBTQIA+ and
Faith.
Religious objections still interfere with the equality of LGBTQIA+ people, and arguments from the Bible,
tradition, and religious authorities are cited by critics to justify discrimination and abuse.
PFLAG believes that being a person of faith and an LGBTQIA+ person – or the family member of an
LGBTQIA+ person – need not be exclusive of one another and recognizes that many faiths openly and
lovingly embrace the LGBTQIA+ community. Come and hear how several of these faith communities in
the Greater Waukesha Area have come to a place of affirmation and celebration of LGBTQIA+ identity.
Panelists Rev. Tory V. Topjian from Metropolitan Community Church, Cantor Martin Levson from
Reformed Jewish, Rev. Becky Fetters from Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and Rev. David
Simmons from The Episcopal Church & The Presbyterian Church, USA will discuss how their religious
traditions affirm the inherent dignity of the LGBTQIA+ Community and how they got there.
“In a world in which many faith traditions condemn those who identify themselves as part of the
LGBTQIA+ community, it is a great gift to know that some religions not only accept them but affirm who
they are as beloved children of God. My personal faith journey, ongoing study as a pastor, and
relationships with friends and family has deepened and expanded my understanding of God’s radical love
for all, and I look forward sharing my story and hearing from others about theirs in a way that can help to
remove guilt, shame, or stigma for so many.” Rev. Becky Fetters
