Madison, Wis. – The Overture Galleries continue Overture Center’s commitment to fostering outstanding local visual arts with new Fall cycle opening in September.

The Vietnam War and Its Lasting Impact: Photography of Robert Seitz and Peter Finnegan

Overture Playhouse Gallery | Featured Saturday, September 10 – Sunday, October 16, 2016

Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, two local veterans remember those who gave so much. Presented in partnership with Housing Initiatives, who work to end veteran homelessness (housinginitiatives.org).

Overture Playhouse Gallery | Wednesday, September 21 from 5-8 p.m.

  • Doug Bradley and Craig Werner, authors of the award-winning book We Gotta Get Out of This Place, will discuss how popular music was at the heart of the American experience in Vietnam.

Gallery I & II, PhotoMidwest Juried Exhibition

As part of the 2016 PhotoMidwest Biennial Festival, this exhibition juried by Larry Fink displays the work of over 40 Midwestern photographers and illustrates photography’s ability to both provide personal fulfillment and communicate values, ideas and emotions.

Gallery III, Diverse Nature: Gender & the Botanic: Tara Austin and Natalie Kirk

Exploring interpretations of gender, this exhibition reveals how cultures characterize nature. Tara Austin’s paintings depict the visual languages interpreted within floral patterns. Natalie Kirk’s photography opens dialogue about masculinity and femininity through contradictory messages in fashion and bodies.

Legends of Mexico City: Leticia Castillo and the Latino Art Fair

Overture Rotunda Lobby | Featured Friday, September 16 – Sunday, October 16, 2016

Castillo’s, winner of the 2015 Latino Art Fair, paintings present traditional Mexican myths about time, a place and folkloric dance.

Overture Center’s 4th Annual Latino Art Fair

Overture Promenade Terrace | Friday, October 7 from 5-9 p.m.

Organized by the Latino Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Overture, the Latino Art Fair celebrates the richness of the Latino culture in Dane County. Over 25 artists will exhibit and sell their work.

Gallery I sponsored by Webcrafters-Frautschi Foundation. Additional support for Overture Galleries is provided by the Arts Access Fund, a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation, and by contributions to Overture Center for the Arts.

Gallery receptions are sponsored by Overture Center, will have served refreshments and are free and open to the public.

Located in Overture Center for the Arts at 201 State Street, the Overture Galleries radiate off the Rotunda Lobby on three levels and the Playhouse Gallery is on the lower level across from The Playhouse Theater and adjacent to the Rotunda Stage.  Overture Galleries are free and open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
