Job Summary:

This is a frontline position that is responsible for event setups at the Discovery Building (300 N. Orchard Street). The position will also float between multiple buildings, based on need. Responsibilities include: providing setup services for meetings, conferences, banquets, and other special events; minor event space maintenance; and training of student employees.

Responsibilities:

Assists with event planning, set-up, execution, and documentation to ensure events meet customer needs.

  • 65% Performs on-site event set-up and clean up and may perform basic custodial duties
  • 5% Greets customers/guests, assists with registration, answers questions, and provides routine information, referring more complicates issues to appropriate entities
  • 5% Gathers, enters, and maintains accurate event data and records
  • 20% Guides and trains student workers
  • 5% Room Detailing

Qualifications:

-Ability to walk, stand, lift, carry, bend, stoop and climb for the majority of the shift, including extended periods of continuous physical activities with or without an accommodation.
-Ability to lift and move supplies, equipment and material regularly up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with or without an accommodation.
Preferred – experience supervising and training part-time employees.
-Ability to move, push and stack furniture regularly, often in excess of 100 lbs. with or without an accommodation.

Work Schedule:

12PM-8PM Monday-Friday
(Hours may vary based on business needs. Example Home UW Football games, Graduation weekend)

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Primary work location will be at the Discovery Building (300 N. Orchard Street) but will also assist with event setup at other locations.

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
