Have a story to tell? Our Lives is always looking for fresh voices and ideas from across Wisconsin. We welcome submissions covering community events, breaking or underreported news, LGBTQ-owned businesses, compelling profiles of people making a difference, and thoughtful opinion or editorial pieces. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or sharing your perspective for the first time, your voice matters here. If it impacts or reflects our community, we want to hear about it—send us your ideas and help shape the stories that define us.
Types of Stories:
- PROFILE STORY: A profile story about someone for Our Lives should feel intimate, grounded, and rooted in community impact—not just a recap of someone’s life, but a portrait of who they are in relationship to others. At its core, it’s about telling the story behind the person: the personal journey that shaped them, what drives them, and how their presence ripples through LGBTQ+ life in Wisconsin.
- BUSINESS PROFILE: A business profile for Our Lives isn’t just about what a business sells—it’s about who built it, who it serves, and what it means to Wisconsin’s LGBTQ+ community. It should read less like a directory listing and more like a story of purpose, place, and connection.
- OPINION/EDITORIAL: An Opinion/Editorial in Our Lives should feel like a clear, personal voice in conversation with the community—not detached commentary, but something rooted in lived and/or professional experience, urgency, and impact. It’s where perspective meets purpose.
- NEWS: A news story for Our Lives should be clear, timely, and grounded in community impact—delivering the facts while making it unmistakably relevant to LGBTQ+ readers across Wisconsin. It’s journalism first, but with a distinct lens: Why does this matter to us, here, right now?
- EVENT: An event story for Our Lives should capture more than what happened—it should convey what it felt like to be there and why it mattered to the community. It lives somewhere between news and feature: timely, but immersive; informative, but human.
If this is an event, we also need you to submit it to our calendar here.
