Bartell Theatre to reawaken with September comedy “CLUE”

by | Aug 13, 2021 | 0 comments

(Madison, WI) The Bartell Theatre, 113 E Mifflin Street, will raise the curtain back up after almost 18 months for the 6 participating theatre companies on Friday, September 17, 2021, with the murder mystery comedy “Clue,” based on the 1985 movie and the classic board game. This Mercury Players Theatre (a co-production with OUT!Cast Theatre) will run for 4 weeks through October 9. This will be an all-ages show (with a movie-like PG rating for some comic murder and innuendo). The show is performed with an intermission to allow patrons to check out the new bar selections as well.

All performances will require patrons to be vaccinated for Covid-19, along with all audiences being masked (exception being while eating or drinking, or medical restrictions). The cast and crew of Clue are 100% vaccinated and the show will be performed without masks on actors.

“Clue has been a long time coming, but the timing of needing to just have 2 hours of laughter couldn’t be better” says director Steve Noll. Along with co-producer Bonnie Balke, they had announced the show for last season but had to see it cancelled along with the rest of the Bartell shows from last year. The two have a 10-year history of collaboration of Mercury/OUT!Cast co-productions with shows like “Xanadu: The Broadway Musical” and “The Rocky Horror Show.” Noll has also directed two of Mercury’s family “panto” spoofs. “I’ve pulled a few dad jokes from the pantos into the staging of Clue” says Noll, “especially given the challenge of recreating 9 board-game rooms on just one stage in 90 minutes. Our show mantra has been Film-Noir meets Scooby Doo!”

“Clue” will run for 13 performances and all tickets ($25/$22) are reserved seating (new for the Bartell; no general admission seating). Tickets will also be digital/contactless, in addition to new Covid safety protocols the Bartell is adding for all upcoming shows. The Bartell is carefully following Dane County Health and may make additional changes as needed for patron safety. Tickets can be purchased at BartellTheatre.org or calling the Bartell Box Office (Tue-Fri 2p-6p) at 608-661-9696.
