Kanopy Dance is pleased to offer a rare opportunity to participate in a Master Class with guest artist Martin Løfsnes Master class with former Martha Graham Principal Dancer Martin Løfsnes Thursday November 14th, 4:30pm-6:00pm at the Kanopy Dance Studio, upstairs at 341 State Street, Madison

Master class for intermediate and advanced dancers taught by former Martha Graham Principal Dancer Martin Løfsnes. Space is limited. Fee: $20.

This dynamic modern/ contemporary class, is steeped in the technical principles of Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, and gives a taste of 360º Dance Company’s eclectic style and esthetic. The class starts with a set of simple floor exercises, followed by center work focusing on placement and line, rhythm, speed and direction changes, culminating in dynamic combinations moving across the floor. Registration for Master Class:

Martin Løfsnes, was born in East Germany and grew up in Norway. In 2007 he founded 360º Dance Company; a venue for dance artists to grow, experiment and expand their horizons, through presenting classic modern dance works and contemporary commissions. Since 2007, 360 has presented more than 20 works, including 6 world premieres. Martin performed as a Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company from 1993-06. He also appeared in Matthew Bourne’s ‘Swan Lake’ (Broadway cast) and performed with Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Pearl Lang, Donald Byrd and Errol Grimes. Martin’s choreography has been commissioned and produced by Kanopy Dance Company (Madison, WI) and The Ailey School. Martin received his early dance training in Norway and later studied at London Contemporary Dance School. He also studied at the Ailey and Graham Schools. While affiliated with the Graham company he worked with his most influential teachers and mentors; Carol Fried, Pearl Lang and Yuriko. Martin is on the faculty of the Ailey School.

Teaching credits include Graham School, La Guardia High School, State College of Dance (Oslo, Norway) and SUNY Purchase. He is a member of the Arts Advisory Committee of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and is also the Custodian of Jane Dudley’s “Time is Money,” handling the licensing and restaging of the piece on behalf of the Jane Dudley Estate. Get your tickets to see Martin Løfsnes and other guest artists perform with the Kanopy Dance Company in
