“Women’s Musical Lives”
Taught by Jessica Courtier

Women musicians and composers have contended with issues ranging from gendered expectations about professionalism to perceptions of their bodies’ physical capabilities to their claims of authority. We survey key themes that have shaped the careers of women in music, working across diverse times and places. Along the way, we get to know the lives and works of several women composers and musicians in both classical and popular music.
