The Department of Theatre and Drama’s University Theatre is pleased to announce the 2015-16 Season. Opening the fall semester will be the remount of Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen’s song cycle Fugitive Songs directed by Tony Award-winning actress Karen Olivo. University Theatre then explores the insulated lives of five Japanese-American women living in Kansas following WWII in Velina Hasu Houston’s Tea directed by Professor and Asian Theatre Performance Specialist David Furumoto. The fall semester closes with Thornton Wilder and Ken Ludwig’s adaptation of George Farquhar’s The Beaux’ Stratagem directed by Patricia Boyette, University Theatre’s Director of Theatre Production.

After the winter break, nationally renowned Chicago theatre artists, director Chuck Smith and playwright Lydia Diamond, will bring Diamond’s satire of the “post-racial” world Smart People to the Mitchell Theatre stage. The season will close by pulling back the curtain of the dressing room with James Sherman’s comedy about theatre, Magic Time, to be directed in the Mitchell Theatre by guest director soon to be announced.

In spring of 2016, the Department’s University Theatre will introduce the inaugural season of Second Stage. As a student-driven laboratory theatre, Second Stage is designed to help UW Theatre and Drama students self-produce experimental theatre in the Hemsley Theatre.

Details on each University Theatre production will be released soon.
