YMCA and Overture partner for Sharing Our Stories

Madison, Wis. – The YMCA and Overture Center join for an afternoon of Sharing Our Stories, a free community event, on Sunday, November 13 from 5-7 p.m. at the Lussier Family East YMCA. Storyteller and author Dasha Kelly will lead us through three easy steps that will help us find and shape our memories so that we can share our stories of community, family and healthy living.  Volunteers are asked to tell their stories. This is a share-at-will, no-pressure gathering that everyone can enjoy, and children 13 and older will team for their very own story sharing.

“Overture is responsible for engaging and including as broad of an audience as possible throughout our community,” said Ron Luskin, Overture Center Community Advisory Board member. “In partnering with the YMCA for Sharing Our Stories, Overture has a great opportunity to be inclusive and demonstrate the positive benefits of authentic storytelling.  Through this experience, those who may not consider themselves a patron may be motivated to find other Overture Center offerings they would find appealing and beneficial.”

Kelly applies the tenets of creative writing to create unique and impactful workshop experiences for audiences of all kinds. Whether the focus is on craft or strategic planning, her broad experiences as an organizer, educator, journalist, entrepreneur, artist, sibling, partner, performer, editor, public speaker, parent, mentor and writer all meld together into an unparalleled opportunity for discovery, reflection, entertainment and growth.

Light snacks and beverages provided. Admission is free for all but space is limited. Attendees can click here to register. For all ages 8 and up; child care will be provided for those 2-8.
