A Tapestry of Love // Shayna Rak & Elizabeth Regier
August 2 // Engaged 10.10.24 // The Rotunda, Waukesha
We had an interfaith, ceremony officiated by Dr. Molly Greening. We received many compliments about how moving the musical and ritualistic service. The tapestry behind us was originally made for the artist’s daughter’s lesbian interfaith wedding. They graciously lent us the tapestry to help celebrate our special day. This connection to another interfaith lesbian couple by act of kindness is greatly appreciated and added to the magic of the day. During our ceremony we symbolically watered a tree that is now planted in Chapman Park, Oconomowoc. We are hoping to visit this tree on our anniversaries as a reminder of the momentous occasion. Roll for Smooch // Amani & Felix DeHolton
August 3 // Engaged 3.10.24 // Overture Center for the Arts, Madison
One of the joys of planning a queer wedding was the freedom to pick and choose the parts that felt right to us. The result was a day that truly celebrated our love and life together. Our ceremony was officiated by Amani’s aunt and included feeding our sourdough starter as a symbol of nourishing our relationship. Guests threw paper airplanes instead of confetti as we walked out. We had a giant d20 (die) available during the reception for folks to roll—we’d kiss if they rolled high enough, but a low roll meant they had to do a silly dance or share a memory with us. And our best man surprised us with giant cutouts of our cats on the dance floor! Photographer: Sara Baillies
Perfect as Life Can Get // Taylor Abele & Ashe Roupas
August 9 // Engaged 11.24.22 // Garver Feed Mill, Madison
We were blessed to be surrounded by family and friends celebrating our love for each other, and our wedding was as perfect as real life can get. We were able to dodge an incoming storm and get the outdoor first look photos we both wanted. The storm ended up helping because our location had no one in the background—everyone fled the oncoming rain and the wind created a gorgeous picture with Taylor’s cape and Ashe’s veil. Our ceremony was a perfect blend of the two of us, combining Taylor’s family’s Unity candle tradition with Ashe’s Greek heritage for the Stefana (Greek wedding crowns). We combined the elements into a single seamless component of the ceremony—a true representation of two becoming one! Photographer: Paul F. Gero
A Reflection of True Love // Emily & Parlee Hayden
August 9 // Engaged 10.14.23 // Chapters on the Horizon, Viola
Our wedding day was defined by authentic, unconditional love. Set in the Driftless Region, we intentionally designed it to reflect who we are. From a custom dinner by a caterer from Emily’s beloved hometown restaurant, to 130 pieces of thoughtfully thrifted glassware, to a live band of Parlee’s musician colleagues, every detail was chosen with care. Nothing was left to chance—not even the weather, thanks to an online witch!
What truly made the day unforgettable were the people who showed up from across the country to celebrate our love. While some family members chose hate over love, those who attended did so loudly and proudly. We have never felt more loved, seen, or celebrated—quite literally, as Parlee’s vows nearly earned a standing ovation! Photographer: Megan of Beyond the Pines Photography
