Up Nort Nuptial: Adam Ninnemann & Matthew Kaltenberg

Given Covid precautions, we decided to have a small celebration up north with our immediate family. Keeping things small and simple allowed us all to stay together at a cabin outside of Hayward and enjoy a beautiful fall weekend together.

Our wedding morning started off with a group kayak trip, yoga session, and a quick swim in the lake. Matthew’s sister did a wonderful job officiating our ceremony, and we ended the night with a fish fry and bonfire. We were married in the stunning Orton Park gazebo. It was always pretty quiet whenever we went to visit, but it was packed the day of our wedding, so we had this unexpected audience for one of the most intimate and important days of our lives. After the ceremony there was such loud cheering from the entire park, and my dad later told me there were strangers crying as we read our vows to each other.

The fact we declared our love so publicly, and it was cheered on by strangers, was profound. It was something generations before us couldn’t even fathom, or could only hope for. To go from 16-year-old, long-distance high school sweethearts to wives 10 years later, knowing all that we went through to get here, made it all the sweeter. Photographer: Amanda Mae Media

Happily Ever After in Love: Meghan & Brianna Johns-Hill

To celebrate our love, we wanted to put our own twist on a traditional ceremony. We had two aisles that formed a V-shape, meeting at our ceremonial arch. Our whole families (parents and sisters) walked us down the aisles at the same time, symbolizing the union of our family names. We wrote our own vows and ring exchange, and our best friend April officiated our ceremony which was filled with poetry and advice from loved ones. We Re-tied the Knot: Felicia & Gabey Davis

Our wedding got canceled due to COVID, so instead of 220 people we had a ceremony last year with our immediate family. Initially, this was hard because we had spent so much time of our lives overcoming self-hurt for being gay, so we had just wanted to be with EVERYONE we loved, but there was no pressure anymore. 

We had to order our cake and get our flowers from the grocery store, it was raining, our venue got switched three times. Every single thing went wrong, and it was perfect. My childhood pastor united us. I got to marry the person I can make the world better with. 

This year, we had everything we planned. We re-tied the knot with ALL of our loved ones, DJ, and a photographer at an outdoor wedding. It was a dream come true. Photographer: Taber Lacie Photo
