Madison, Wisconsin— October 6, 2014 — Over the past few months, a committee of attorneys from across the state have come together to establish the LGBT Bar Association of Wisconsin. Having officially formed a non-profit corporation, the Association is now welcoming new members and holding events in Milwaukee and Madison.
“The LGBT Bar Association of Wisconsin will serve a number of purposes. Perhaps the most important is to highlight issues of law and justice that impact the diverse LGBT community throughout the state,” said the association’s president Danielle Bailey of Cross Law Firm, S.C., in Milwaukee. “Our long term goals include establishing educational initiatives, training programs, and collaboration with other organizations that have similar principles.”

Membership in the LGBT Bar Association of Wisconsin is open to LGBT individuals and allies who are practicing and non-practicing lawyers, judges, law educators, government officials, law students, and other legal professionals who reside, work, hold a law license, or attend law school in Wisconsin. Association members will enjoy increased visibility via social and professional networking opportunities, low cost and free continuing legal education credits, and the opportunity to be a part of a ground-breaking organization engaging the legal community and the public at large on important LGBT issues.
Upcoming Events
The LGBT Bar Association of Wisconsin’s inaugural event will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2014, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Hamilton in Milwaukee. In anticipation of National Coming Out Day on Saturday, October 11th, the event’s theme is Come Out and Meet the Bar. The event is sponsored by Foley & Lardner and Clark Hill, and those who sign up for membership will receive complimentary drink tickets. The Association intends to hold events on the second Friday of each month in Milwaukee, Madison, and beyond. Martin Price of First American Title serves as Chair of the Events Committee for the Western District, which will cover functions in Madison. Next month on November 14th, there will be an informal happy hour gathering in Madison at the Shamrock Bar and Grille, one of the city’s best known LGBT establishments. “Our first event will be in Milwaukee and the second in Madison,” said Mr. Price, “but we hope to enlist legal professionals from all parts of the state. This is an exciting new venture to reach LGBT individuals and address the legal issues that affect us most, and we want cast our net as wide as possible.”
