Proud Theater Wisconsin is excited to announce their newest chapter of Proud Theater opening in Green Bay on October 20, 2018!  Proud Theater Green Bay will open their doors for the first time in the Green Bay area and has exciting opportunities for LGBTQI+ and allied youth between the ages of 13 and 18 to explore themselves and their identities through theater, music, dance, and spoken word in a safe, fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. The chapter is open to anyone who lives in the Green Bay or surrounding areas.
Rehearsals for the new Proud Theater Green Bay chapter will begin on October 20, 2018, 1-3:30 p.m., and will be held every Saturday during the school year at the Union Congregational UCC Church, 716 South Madison Street, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Youth interested in being part of Proud Theater Green Bay need only show up to rehearsals to join in the fun!
Proud Theater is an award-winning, exciting, and innovative LGBTQI+ and Allied youth theater program in Wisconsin whose mission is ‘to change the world through the power of theater and the theater arts, and to make a positive difference in the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth through the tenets of art, heart, and activism’. Founded in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1999, the group is open to youth that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, Intersex, or who are allied with the queer community (LGBTQIA+).
Empowering and creative, Proud Theater Green Bay will encourage youth to share their personal stories through the creation of original and personal theatrical works, which they then will present to the community at large throughout the school year. Traditionally, the group ends each season with a culminating showcase production. The 2019 culminating performance dates are in the works.
Proud Theater Green Bay will be the 6th chapter of Proud Theater in the State of Wisconsin, with chapters in Sun Prairie, Wausau, Milwaukee, and two in Madison, one of which is a chapter of Proud Theater Beyond, an organization for young LGBTQIA+ adults ranging from post-high school 18 years of age up to 24 years old.
Proud Theater Green Bay is a program of Art and Soul Innovations (artandsoulinnovations.org) and is sponsored through generous financial support from the LaForce Family Foundation.
