A True Best Friend  //   José Vega & Mike Webber

August 5  //  Engaged July 2, 2022  //  Vintage Brewing Company, Sauk City

Our ceremony was officiated by Mike’s best friend Brian Mitsch. We were surprised how much about our life together he included in the delivery of the ceremony. Our first date, our love of Badger sports, in and outs about our relationship in the past 10 years. He clearly had been paying attention. It meant so much to us how detailed he was with his words pertaining to our relationship. It will always be a highlight and most memorable part of our day. Photographer: Tiffany Bekx

Anonymous No More  //   Cass Downing & Ryan Mueller

August 12  //  Engaged Dec. 19, 2021  //  Chapel of the Archangels, Beaver Dam

We met years ago when we were using and selling drugs. We fell out of contact but reunited years later at a NA meeting where Cass was getting her 13-year key tag. We’d see each other at meetings for the next few years but really started hanging out in the summer of ‘15. We started dating in 2016. I proposed at her 50th birthday party in December of 2021 in front of friends and family during her drag performance.

We got married in August, and all the vendors were part of the LGBTQIA and/or BIPOC community, as being a trans couple it meant a lot for us to work with people who have had a similar experience and spend our money to support other small business owners who happen to be a part of the community. Married life has been quite a whirlwind. So far and we have been enjoying it, along with our dogs: Cilantro and Gumbo. Photographer: Schuld Photography

Just Kidding!  //   Amy Kue & Betsy Moyer

August 19  //  Engaged July 31, 2020  //  Madison

The ceremony began without the brides being ready, and we had to redo the processional. Amy’s sister yelled “Just Kidding!” and everyone had a good laugh. No one was sad about watching four kids come back down the aisle in their adorable coordinated outfits.

We asked family members to decorate and coordinate our low-key wedding, but this led to rushed family photos and missed quality time together. We learned that it’s worth the money to hire a wedding planner so that family can just enjoy the day.

We had an unexpected wedding crasher who ended up being the most delightful guest, helper, and partier. We were surprised that we each wrote vows based on nature (geology puns and plant metaphors). We arrived at our reception via a canoe in our wedding outfits. We also had a mashed potato bar. Photographer: Farrah (Yang) Photos & Design

Off Like a Shot  //   Elizabeth & Jessica Ramirez Mancilla

September 1  //  Engaged August, 2023  //  South Milwaukee

We met at Pride this year. Jessica was my best friend’s partner’s best friend. Never met her before, and the minute I laid my eyes on her, I knew she needed to be mine. I’m very introverted and she’s very extroverted. We went out to the bar that night and completely hit it off.

My birthday is at the end of July, and the cake that was used during my birthday party had a pull out tab in it. It was a paper asking me to be her girlfriend. We were intoxicated that night, and I said, “You know you should marry me.” She giggled. You know; no big deal we are both intoxicated. A couple days later we’re having a conversation, and I say, “You should marry me; I’m serious.” She says OK.

Next thing you know, I am moving mountains to get married. You no longer get married at the courthouse in Milwaukee, and I had to find somebody. We got our marriage license at the end of August, and the first day of September, we married. A little bit over six months of meeting this woman, and a little bit over three months married. Would do this all over again if it meant ending up with her.
