MADISON, Wis. — Run Madtown is expanding its commitment to inclusion with the launch of a new event in 2026: “Rudy’s Rainbow Mile,” a one-mile race honoring the life and legacy of a beloved community member while raising support for LGBTQ+ youth.

Announced this week, the race will debut Saturday, May 23, beginning and ending on State Street as part of the broader Run Madtown weekend. Organizers say the event is both a celebration of community and a continuation of the organization’s ongoing efforts to center LGBTQ+ inclusion within one of Wisconsin’s largest running events.

The race honors Rudy Rosbeck-Ledesma, remembered for his vibrant personality, advocacy for equality and deep ties to the local running and LGBTQ+ communities. Rudy, also known as Milano Breeze, was also closely connected to Run Madtown through his spouse, T.J. Rosbeck-Ledesma — known onstage as Harmony Breeze — who serves as the event’s finish line announcer.

“Rudy brought joy, color and authenticity everywhere he went,” said Race Director Beth Salinger in the announcement. “Creating Rudy’s Rainbow Mile allows the Run Madtown community to celebrate his life while supporting an organization doing vital work for LGBTQ+ youth.”

Proceeds and visibility from the race will benefit Courage+, a Milwaukee-based nonprofit that provides safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ young people while advocating for systemic change. The organization held particular significance to Rudy and his spouse.

Participants in the inaugural mile will receive race bibs, professional timing, finisher medals and brightly colored sunglasses — a nod to Rudy’s signature rainbow eyewear. The one-mile format is intentionally designed to be accessible, welcoming runners, walkers and community members of all abilities.

The addition of Rudy’s Rainbow Mile builds on inclusion efforts previously highlighted by Our Lives in a July 30 feature examining Run Madtown’s evolving approach to LGBTQ+ visibility and community engagement. That coverage noted the event’s emphasis on creating spaces where participants of all identities feel seen and celebrated — a vision organizers say this new race brings into sharper focus.

By centering the event on both remembrance and action, organizers hope Rudy’s Rainbow Mile becomes more than just another race — but a moment of collective visibility, joy and belonging.

“Whether you’re racing for a personal best or simply showing up in support,” organizers noted, “this is about celebrating community.”

Registration details are available through Run Madtown’s official website.
