After Tony Evers was inaugurated in January 2019 as Governor of Wisconsin, his first executive order was to ensure protections for the LGBTQ community in Wisconsin.

The details of the order are as follows:

  • Required State of Wisconsin agencies to develop policies barring discrimination against their employees, and to people they serve, on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Required State of Wisconsin contracts and grants to only hire on the basis of merit and not to discriminate on the basis of any class protected by the State.
  • Ordered the Wisconsin Equal Opportunity Program to include programs that emphasized harassment prevention and cultural diversity awareness.

In addition, Governor Evers took a stand with the governors of California, New York and Colorado to fly the Pride Flag, for the first time, over the Wisconsin State Capitol in honor of Pride Month in June 2019.

We recognize the revolutionary acts and needed protections advocated by Governor Evers. We invite you to join in our celebration of Governor Evers and other distinguished honorees at OutReach’s 27thAnnual Awards Banquet on Friday October 18, 2019 at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.
